SATANAMA Lab's Multi Pots are plant pots made by upcycling unwanted yoga mats. They can also hold small items, but we especially recommend using them for plants! Plants grow well in our Multi Pots, but you may wonder how much difference they make. We decided to find out by growing plants in a Multi Pot and a plastic pot side by side.

We grew Davallia, also known as rabbit's foot fern—a charming plant with features resembling a rabbit's feet. Because it prefers to avoid direct sunlight, we kept it indoors in a bright spot. • We watered both plants at the same time, usually misting the leaves daily. • Each time, we sprayed approximately ten times with a misting bottle. We started growing the plants in these two pots in July.

The plant in the black Multi Pot appeared to have firmer leaves and better color and sheen. The yoga mat material helped retain a moderate amount of moisture without leaving the roots overly humid. Its combination of breathability and drainage also seemed to support steady root growth. The plant in the plastic pot looked a little droopy to us. Its leaves did not seem as lively. Our Multi Pot really did well!

We think the softness and moisture-retaining qualities of yoga mat material create conditions closer to soil, which may benefit plants. We took a very low-maintenance approach this time, mostly using a spray bottle. If you have more time, we think the plants may grow even better if you water until they are immersed, drain them after a while, and give them sunlight. When draining a Multi Pot, its structure leaves gaps for the water to escape, so you can simply leave it to drain. Care is easy!
